Gloucester Rugby Club
Gloucester Rugby Club is a professional rugby Club of England which is situated in the city of Gloucester. They are participants of the Aviva Premiership and also compete at the Anglo Welsh Cup and the European Rugby Cup. The club’s home ground is at the Kingsholm stadium which is pretty small and has a capacity of just 16000 seats. This is located at the Kingsholm district, just at the outskirts of the Gloucester center. The club is currently under the chairmanship of TBC and is coached and captained by Bryan Red path and Luke Narraway respectively.
Their jersey ranges from red and white stripes to blue and white stripes depending upon their home and away matches. The club was originally founded in 1873 and was basically aimed at playing for the College school in the city of Kingsholm. This team went on to make a name for themselves in the professional rugby circuit and there has never been looking back ever since. Right from the very start Gloucester Rugby Club had a successful streak. Out of their first 11 games in the 1876-1877 seasons, they managed to win 6, draw 3 and just lose 2. Even the next two consecutive seasons had a pretty similar game play and ended up with almost similar results of 10 wins 3 draws and 2 losses. The mark in the professional career came when they became the champions at the National Knock out Competition in the year 1972 and managed to beat bath, Bristol, London Welsh and all the other top clubs in those times.
Gloucester Rugby Club is currently placed 5th in the English Premier League Standings, just behind Sale Sharks and Harlequins. The club had seen a number of changes as Tom Walkinshaw became the new owner of the club. He possessed the majority of the shares and hence took hold of position on 29th April, 1997. In the 1999-2000 seasons they managed to end up with a third place. However things were not smooth after this. They failed to develop and build on the success of the previous season and performed terribly right from 2002-2006. Then suddenly, the club had strong contenders and with improvement in the game play and skill they managed to make it to the top at the Guinness Premiership table in the 2006-2007 seasons. This victory became the base for a successful performance by the Gloucester Rugby Club and they managed to perform well in the upcoming seasons as well. The success of the club was owed to the new captain Dean Ryan. At the end of the 2008-2009 seasons, Dean Ryan left the club out of his own will and was replaced by Bryan Red Path as the new captain. More disaster struck the club when the owner had passed away just a year later in 2010 and David McKnight was appointed to work alongside Tom’s son to handle the affairs and operations of the club. With all the losses for the club, they still managed to play well and none of it affected thei9r normal game. They emerged champions in the Anglo Welsh Cup in 2011 and secured a position in the Heineken Cup.
